Viewer Reviews This movie is still one of my favorites about the subject of alcoholism. (Tender Mercies is probably the best movie on this subject). The narrative arc is somewhat overwrought. The Jack Lemmon character goes into delirium tremens twice! He does this not after he goes cold turkey and as a result of withdrawal symptoms but after one night of taking up drinking again. That doesn't make sense. Lee Remick's fondness for chocolate as a precursor to possible tendencies to alcoholism I think has been pretty much discredited. Nevertheless, you do wind up caring what happens to the characters. The supporting cast is great. I would recommend the movie.
