If I am going to be honest, I have to say that I never found Andy Kauffman particularly funny and I am talking from his work in Taxi to this misadventure.Heartbeeps seems to me, more of a made for TV movie that might have appeared on the Nickelodeon channel if it would have existed in 1981.The script is so loose and sloppy , it almost seems improvised. <br />And from what I have seen and read about Kauffman's performance style this very well might be true.To begin with the Robots existence is never really explained and there run to freedom seems to have know rhyme or reason, it basically is an exercise in what can we do with 79 minutes of film stock.I cant recommend Heartbeeps for Adults, but children might find the Phil and Catskill robots kind of cute. On a positive note , I think the Catskill Robot with Cigar option is the high point of Heartbeeps and for me deliver the few small laughs or giggles in the film.I think it would be unfair of me to be to critical of Andy Kauffman's performance in this film, which I believe was his first feature. After all his career was cut tragically short. Maybe had he survived and gained further experience and been able to temper and adjust his comedic style he would have blossomed into a major talent. In my own personal opinion, I don't think he understood it was his job to entertain His audience and not the audiences Job to entertain Him.

Viewer Reviews
I enjoy these 'cult' movies from the 80s. I always saw the movie trailers as a child, but never got to experience it until years later on VHS (which was too expensive to purchas like Electric Dreams from MGM). So I am glad this finally made its way to DVD at an afordable price.

Its also interesting to see this movie set in 1995 (13 years ago in our time), where robots are fully evolved. The story is a fairytale for robots who want to be free and experience human emotions. The 'Crimebuster' reminds me of a Dalek from Dr. Who.

All in all if you enjoy robots, scifi, etc, this movie is for you.
