Toshiro Mifune stars as Isaburo, an aging swordsman living a quiet life until his clan lord orders that his son marry the lord's mistress, who has recently displeased the ruler. It is brilliantly made and acted in a time when many films could not connect a far away place with the way we feel today. I bought the Rebel Samurai Collection because it included Samurai Rebellion and three other films. I personally enjoy this genre and was familiar with the other films included in that set and I couldn't pass it up. I will say this movie is the one to get if you have not experienced Japanese cinema but have heard of movies such as Rashomon and Red Beard(although those are excellent films in their own right). Mifune is a legend and this movie is his stand. Back To Top
