Viewer Reviews Buscemi is such an underrated actor, and here we have his writing and directing debut which is pretty darn good too. He plays Tommy, a listless barfly that can't escape his shady past. Some pisspoor ethical choices have cost him his job, girlfriend, and any sense of direction or solidarity. So he spends an ample amount of time at the local watering hole, temporarily diluting his demons while his soul slowly unravels. Life always presents temptations, choices, and consequences. Sometimes they are sexy and seventeen-years-old (Chloe Sevigny). Oh, the plot thickens. Alcohol rarely makes you any wiser, unfortunately. I actually expected a much more darker depiction of drunken debauchery and alcoholic drudgery, like in Leaving Las Vegas or Factotum. Buscemi isn't merely trying to shock though, he's trying to connect. I think he succeeds admirably.
