After their success on Broadway, the 'Dead End Kids' were recruited by Hollywood. Eventually these young kids from the streets of New York became bonified celebrities, known as the 'Bowery Boys' and starred in over 50 films and serials. In this film the boys are accompanied by the comedy duo of Leo Gorcye and Huntz Hall. The combination of gangster melodrama and slapstick scenarios makes this Bowery Boys series a favorite for young and old alike. *Viewer Reviews* The Bowery Boys are at it again, this time winding up enlisted! Sach (Huntz Hall) and Slip (Leo Gorcey) hear that a friend is in the military, so they go to his base to visit him. They are told that they can enter, but they have to sign up for the army. The information goes in one ear and out the other; the boys just want to see their friend. They wind up signing papers, confused as to why it takes so long just to visit. Soon, they're causing all sorts of problems for the Air Force, and the USA wishes they hadn't tricked the boys into joining! Despite their b-movie history, this film reads like a first rate comedy. The camera work is solid and it seems the budget was much higher than in other films. The special effects aren't always perfect, but they aren't laughable either. The cast is great as always, although it seems Gorcey is showing signs of age. Hall doesn't let him forget that he's getting fat, but Gorcey's drinking luckily hasn't yet gotten to his quick wit. There are plenty of great one-liners here supplemented by the characters' obvious stupidity. ("What we need now is a heli-cropter.") Not to be taken seriously, this film is just a bunch of fun great for lightening anyone's mood. Back To Top
