Viewer Reviews "Jimmy Hollywood" tells the story of Jimmy Alto, a man who's failed to find success as an actor except in his own mind. Living in a crumbling LA bereft of any glory, with his bills paid by his girlfriend (Victoria Abril), Jimmy still believes that he's got a shot at stardom. So confident of his chances that Jimmy (in one of the flick's genuinely funny, if not quite bright moments) rents a street bench so he can advertise his services. His headshot for the "bench" is a riot. However, nothing else in the movie can quite match up to that intuition of failure. Instead, the story has Jimmy and his dim-witted friend William (Chris Slater, miscast) becoming a two-man vigilante squad. This turn occurs when thieves rip off Jimmy's radio, but Jimmy seems more offended by the crime against the honor of LA. Jimmy not only dreams of stardom, but of the glory that is stardom's home - Hollywood. Suffice it to say, Jimmy proves more of a draw (if in anonymity) as a vigilante than an actor. Unfortunately, this occurs late in the story, when the movie becomes less a movie than a really-long sitcom, degenerating into a bunch ill-conceived skits that don't connect with each other. I remember seeing this movie billed as a comedy, but it's never really funny - nor does it have the depth of an even funny drama.
