Dana Plato was desperate when she decided to make this movie. First, she really doesn't look that great naked compared to the busty women that also appeared in the movie. In the pool scene, she is pasty white and very scrawny with a pasty butt. Also she had a weird smile on her face in the pool and her eyes were sunken in I'm sure from the drugs. You could tell she had really lived a hard life. She looked much older than her actual age. Also, her hair and outfits were terrible. I'm a Dana Plato fan and can't understand why she styled her hair in such an unflattering way. Also some of the outfits were ridiculous. Look at the image on the cover of the box to see the dumpy outfit she is wearing. She definitely had acting ability. I can imagine her on Desperate Housewives. Didn't anyone ever try anti-depressants on her? It makes me sad to think of someone being in such pain. Illegal drugs/alcohol don't work. I wish I could have hugged her.
Viewer Reviews This low-budget, direct-to-video, b-movie that Dana (may she rest in peace) made in 1996 (while she was restarting her acting career) is exploitation of the worst kind. Because, it did nothing less than hammer that final nail in kind-hearted Dana's coffin. How dare they have the gall to title this garbage "Different Strokes." I think a very kind word to describe this video is "substandard." I am totally appalled and I am also amazed that the producers were not sued for this. And it's an even bigger shame that poor Dana was used in such a disrespectful and disgraceful regard. This film is utter effluent that should not glom on to Dana's image or name because it's purely done for no other reason than for reckless publicity. Real fans of Dana's respect her memory and her legacy. Contrary to what some people like to believe (because I suppose it perpetuates their fantasy), Dana was not lesbian. She was an actress and perhaps that is also where their confusion comes in. A year before Dana passed away, a woman who Dana was only trying to help sold pictures of her and told lies to a newspaper that branded her lesbian. Dana told the truth as far as her personal life was concerned and even forgave this deranged creature for doing such a hurtful thing. In one of her final interviews Dana said that she doesn't disapprove of the lesbian lifestyle in the least, however she herself was never one. My point is that we cannot judge someone based on a very small or insignificant part of their life (i.e. this film) especially if it is inaccurate. Dana's Career Milestones & Highlights 1965-1976 - Dana appeared in more than 100 commercials 1975 - At the age of 11 made her theatrical debut in the film "Beyond the Bermuda Triangle" 1977 - Appeared in "Exorcist 2" 1977 - After extensive training, Dana won a spot on the US ice-skating Olympics team 1977 - Appeared on "The Gong Show" as a dancer 1978 - Turned down the lead role in "Pretty Baby" 1978-1986 - Stared in the top-10, critically-acclaimed series "Diff'rent Strokes" 1979 - Appeared in the pilot episode of "The Facts of Life" 1980 - Dana was the highest paid child star on broadcast TV, making more than $100,000.00 per episode 1983 - Stared in the movie "High School U.S.A." 1984-1986 - Dana guest-stared on a variety of sitcoms in the '80s including "The Love Boat" and "Growing Pains" 1989 - Stared in the feature film "Prime Suspect" 1990-1999 - Dana appeared on a variety of talk shows and newscasts as an unpaid public advocate and proponent of drug and alcohol awareness 2005 - VH1 named Dana "one of the greatest child stars of all time" Dana was a very talented actress (as well as ice-skater and dancer) and there wasn't anything she couldn't do if she truly set her mind to it because she was such a brilliant lady. Needless to say, while she was alive Dana never did anything to hurt anyone, she only wished others well and she tried many times to help others who were less fortunate than her. Her fans need to remember that and we need to celebrate all the good that she accomplished and achieved. That is what is really important; not some virtual snuff film that is hardly representative of Dana's 30 years in show business.
