Ray Milland and Loretta Young try their best to make this movie work. But even their effort can't hold this together. Milland plays a doctor who is mistaken to be feminist writer's new husband (Loretta Young). In order to raise both of their careers, they fake marriage. After the first twenty minutes the movie goes at a very sluggish pace. Milland and Young bicker to each other. When they finally do get to like each other, it's in a manipulated movie way that I didn't believe. I may have said more but the other reviewer summed it up well: boring.
Viewer Reviews I caught this on Turner Classic Movies the other day and discovered that it was a classic screwball comedy. It's really very witty, well-constructed, and amusing. Loretta Young plays a part that might have been assigned to, say, Carol Landis. And Milland is doing something that Cary Grant made famous. Both stars handle their parts superbly. Gail Patrick, perhaps for the first and only time in her long movie career, plays an air-head other woman. Add this to your list of must-see movies, especially if you like the screwball genre. Great fun for adults.
